Blue Demon — El Demonio Azul

Blue Demon, born Alejandro Muñoz Moreno (1922–2000), stands as one of the three greatest legends of Mexican lucha libre alongside El Santo and Mil Máscaras. Initially a feared rudo (villain), he became a beloved folk hero, forever identified by his iconic blue mask.

Once El Santo’s fiercest rival in the ring, he eventually joined him to form La Pareja Atómica (The Atomic Pair), the most famous tag team in Mexican wrestling history. His career spanned from 1948 to 1989, earning titles including the NWA World Welterweight and Mexican National championships.

Blue Demon also starred in some twenty films, including the cult classic Santo y Blue Demon contra los Monstruos (1970), where the two allied rivals battle Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolfman. True to tradition, he never removed his mask in public and was buried wearing it.
