I wanted people to be able to transport themselves to these magical places that filled my childhood
Arriving in France in 1997, I did a series of small jobs to build up some starting capital then took the big leap in May 2002, the little Tienda Esquipulas was born in Paris 11th with great luck: it was registered on my birthday !
It was a small place where passers-by looked at me a little askance because I was selling skulls, virgins, ex-votos and very strange things for the time!
But I believed in it, it had meaning, the objects spoke for themselves.
My origins, a deep source of inspiration
I grew up in a world of colors and spirituality, of the scent of flowers, of sawdust, of copal and myrrh, of rooster and bird crows, bathed in the sound of indigenous music and landscapes of volcanoes and houses. colorful.
Imbued with religious rituals and icons, sacred hearts, statues of devils and Virgins, pagan rituals and masks of Indian tradition. My life has been bathed in the colors of traditional costumes, magic candles, not to mention the colorful plastic objects from the 70s which still exist with their retro touches.
My supportive side
Tienda Esquipulas was never intended to make me earn lots of money.
What I like, what I have always wanted, is that my work benefits those who make the things that I offer you, over there in our countries and even sometimes in other countries when I fall on objects that I love and that I want to share.
Everything I earn I reinvest it in the development of my business. The months when I cannot pay myself are not rare, like any shop owner who is passionate about his profession.
But, today, I am proud to have established lasting relationships with around fifty artisans, mainly from Mexico and Guatemala, with whom we share the good times and the bad times, the great successes and the failures. and also with customers who have become friends or have acquired a taste for bizarre objects
I am especially proud to have participated in allowing all those with whom I share my origins to continue to make a living from their know-how and their work.
This is my true wealth.
