Rey Mysterio — The Greatest Ambassador of Lucha Libre
The Rey Mysterio dynasty marked the history of professional wrestling. Rey Mysterio Sr., pioneer of the aerial style in Tijuana in the 1970s, trained his nephew Óscar Gutiérrez — Rey Mysterio Jr. — who became the most famous luchador on the planet. WWE World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania 22 (2006) and Royal Rumble winner, he popularized lucha libre internationally more than anyone else. His signature move, the 619, became iconic. The smallest world champion in WWE history, he proved that technique and agility could triumph over strength.
Lucha libre is a living tradition of Mexico, born in the 1930s and inseparable from its legendary arenas: the Arena México in Mexico City, cathedral of Mexican wrestling inaugurated in 1956, the Arena Coliseo, and the Arena Puebla. Every Friday night, thousands of spectators gather there to watch masked técnicos and rudos face off in spectacular matches. This Rey Mysterio Mexican wrestling mask is part of our collection of Mexican wrestling masks, handcrafted in Mexico.
