Description

Nacho Libre — From Wrestling Priest to Cult Film

Nacho Libre is the character from the 2006 Jack Black film directed by Jared Hess. The movie is inspired by the true story of Fray Tormenta (Sergio Gutiérrez Benítez), a Catholic priest who led a double life as a masked wrestler for over 20 years to fund his orphanage in Texcoco, Mexico, caring for approximately 270 orphans. The film greatly helped introduce lucha libre culture to international audiences.

Lucha libre is a living tradition of Mexico, born in the 1930s and inseparable from its legendary arenas: Arena México in Mexico City, the cathedral of Mexican wrestling inaugurated in 1956, Arena Coliseo, and Arena Puebla. Every Friday night, thousands of spectators gather to watch masked técnicos and rudos clash in spectacular bouts. This Mexican wrestling mask Nacho Libre is part of our collection of Mexican wrestling masks, handmade in Mexico.
