Tracas Dolls (or "quitapenas") were born in Guatemala and known to accompany children's imaginations towards serenity by encouraging them to express their concerns.
Tienda Esquipulas offers the classic models made in Guatemala by the craft communities in which it is a partner, but also variations imagined around the magic legend of these dolls to allow them to extend the soothing experience within the family and the home.
Handcrafted by the Indians of the Guatemalan highlands, Tracas Dolls are tiny, the smallest in the world! So small that they all fit in the palm of your hand.
They are made with wood, wire and paper. Their tiny clothes are made with small pieces of fabric from the traditional clothes worn by the Indians. They are stored in small cloth purses of all colors or in small boxes decorated with bright colors in the Indian tradition.
They are very mysterious… they contain a secret! Thus, the legend says that they have a magic power: they make disappear all the possible and unimaginable sorrows during the night. Hence their name "Quitapenas" which in French literally means carefree or hassle-free or even catches dreams.
Every night, before falling asleep the Guatemalan children, do not forget to tell them from the biggest to the smallest of their worries, then they hide them under their pillow and, the next day as if by magic, all their worries have disappeared absorbed by Tracas Dolls!
They are made by craftsmen selected by Tienda Esquipulas who take special care over the quality of the doll (no threads lying around or badly sewn) as well as its packaging.
